BREAK FREE – TWO PEOPLE. TWO YEARS. ONE DREAM

A film about two people who set off on the greatest adventure of their lives. A story meant to inspire you to break away from everyday life and pursue your dreams.

Break free – Two people. Two years. One Dream.

Ulli and Lena plan to take a six-month break and drive from Hamburg to South Africa. They never arrive there. Instead, they spend almost two years rolling through West Africa in their old Land Rover Terés and the nearly 40-year-old roof tent that Ulli’s godmother gave them.

It’s about a lot: about rediscovering yourself, about feeling yourself again. And not turning back until something fundamental has changed in your attitude towards life. On a 46,000-kilometer journey, more than once around the world, the two experience adventures every day. Some of them are hard to digest.

A film that reveals the wonderful, but also the dark, sides of travel. It captivates, stirs, delights, shocks, and astonishes. It gives you the courage to pursue your own dreams. A film that infects you with its fascination and love for Africa.

I really enjoyed this film. I have never been to Africa and am old now but this documentary gave me a completely new perspective on the people of West Africa. I am left with the visions of so many happy children, dancing, singing and living every day as best they can in squalor, hunger and even danger. One man said, “I pray for three things, a job, a family and food.” My, does that every put things in perspective for me! Ulli and Lena share their adventure honestly and with acceptance and appreciation for the people and cultures they come upon. Sadly, I also saw the epic level of pollution with seas of plastic and litter and how forests and animals and sea creatures are being slaughtered to feed too many people. This is a film you will not soon forget and is both important and illuminating.
