Have you ever looked at your life and thought:

“Everything is fine… so why don’t I feel truly alive?”

That question followed me for years.

It was one of the reasons I left my old life behind in Hamburg in 2014, packed everything into an old Land Rover and drove towards Africa with one simple mission:

To understand how to feel truly alive—not just on holiday, not only during exciting moments, but on an ordinary Tuesday.

That journey became much bigger than I ever expected.

The Comfort Trap

Comfort isn’t the enemy.

In fact, comfort is wonderful.

The problem begins when comfort quietly becomes the goal.

When we choose the car instead of the bicycle.
The sofa instead of the sunset.
Scrolling instead of silence.
Predictability instead of curiosity.

None of these choices are wrong.

But over time they slowly disconnect us from the feeling of being fully alive.

I still remember a childhood friend who cycled everywhere.

Twenty kilometres through the rain?

No problem.

When he finally got his driving licence, he promised he’d still ride his bike.

A few weeks later, the bicycle was collecting dust.

That story has stayed with me ever since.

Because I realised how easily comfort replaces experiences that make us feel deeply alive.

Africa Changed My Definition of Freedom

When I first travelled across Africa, I thought I was looking for adventure.

And yes, I found plenty of it.

Broken roads.

Border crossings.

Unexpected challenges.

But what changed me wasn’t the adventure.

It was the people.

The generosity.

The presence.

The way joy didn’t need a reason.

Africa taught me that feeling alive isn’t about constant adrenaline.

It’s about presence.

It’s about connection.

It’s about remembering how to be fully where you are.

How to Feel Alive Again

You don’t have to quit your job.

You don’t need to buy a Land Rover.

And you certainly don’t have to move to Africa.

But you can start leaving your comfort zone in small ways.

Take a different route home.

Cycle instead of driving.

Talk to a stranger.

Leave your phone in another room for an evening.

Watch the sunset without photographing it.

Dance.

Move.

Breathe.

These tiny decisions remind your nervous system that life is happening now—not someday.

Why I Created Afrimind

After years of travelling, learning and living across West Africa, one thing became clear:

People aren’t only searching for adventure.

They’re searching for themselves.

That’s why I created Afrimind and the Free Your Soul Retreats.

These aren’t ordinary holidays.

They’re immersive experiences that combine the wisdom of West Africa, movement, rhythm, nature and deep personal reflection to help you reconnect with what many of us have forgotten:

How it feels to be truly alive.

Feeling Alive Is a Practice

For a long time I believed feeling alive was something I had to find somewhere out there.

Beyond the next country.

The next adventure.

The next horizon.

Africa taught me something completely different.

Aliveness isn’t a destination.

It’s a practice.

A way of breathing.

Moving.

Connecting.

Showing up fully for the life that’s already in front of you.

The real challenge was never finding it.

The real challenge was not losing it again.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to watch my most personal YouTube film yet.

It’s the story of why I left everything behind, what Africa taught me about living and why a comfortable life doesn’t always feel like living.
