Ghana: A Deep Dive into Jungle, Culture, History, and Beaches
For 11 years, I’ve dreamed of offering retreats in Ghana.
Back then, on my first two-year journey through West Africa, I spontaneously stayed nine months in one spot in Ghana. That’s exactly where I’m inviting you to join me again this year – for an unforgettable adventure amid jungle, culture, history, and dream beaches.
My dream finally came true: The first Ghana retreat happened – and I couldn’t have imagined it more beautifully!
The Perfect Group – Like Family from the First Moment
From the registrations, I knew: It would be the perfect people meeting each other, just like always. Anyone traveling with me to Ghana often has an inner voice whispering: “Off to the African continent!”
This group was especially colorful and heartfelt. I knew many from earlier times, like my feature film project. Sarah had been waiting forever for a school holiday slot. Kerstin was on her third retreat – first Gambia, then Morocco, now Ghana. Claudia discovered Gambia through my book Thank You, Africa and came along to Ghana. To my huge delight, Kerstin’s Moroccan husband joined – it turned out he’s a neighbor of my husband’s family in Morocco. And Karamo traveled all the way from Gambia to spend time with us.
From the first hug, the group felt like family: colorful, fun, loving.
The Journey: Pure Adventure and Lessons in Patience
The arrival was tougher than expected – Ghana’s roads were “under construction.” By summer 2026, they’ll be perfect tarmac, inchallah. But that’s the magic: Traveling like the locals builds deep understanding, patience, and the knowledge that everything always works out in the end. The journey is the destination!
Ahanta Ecolodge: Paradise in the Jungle
Arriving at our first accommodation, the Ahanta Ecolodge run by my friends Peter and Julia, we could let go and be pampered. The lodge is built right in the rainforest – you can even shower in the massive roots of a centuries-old kapok tree!
It’s lovingly furnished and my top choice: We support the local community, eat healthy, are right in the middle of it all, yet have our peaceful retreat. Ideal for processing all the impressions. The village is just across the river, and the ocean is at your feet.
Surfing for All Levels: Everyone – beginners or pros – had a blast. Even those who never thought surfing was for them didn’t want to leave the water!
In the stunning yoga shala, we meditated, sang, and grew together and individually in our workshops.
Highlights: Culture, History, and Wild Beaches
We had bonfire nights with drumming, hiked to the former German slave fort in Princess Town, and visited Ghana’s wildest and most beautiful natural beaches – that’s where we ended our retreat.
I’m endlessly grateful to share my favorite spots and people with you through these retreats. They create eye-level experiences: income on one side, growth, understanding, and connection on both.

Dear Lena, thank you for everything! You supported me from the very beginning with the travel preparations and were always there for me.
I can recommend this retreat to anyone who wants to experience the real Africa. We had fantastic accommodations, delicious food, visited beautiful places, and met wonderful, extraordinary people.
We enjoyed great morning yoga sessions, and the surfing was amazing with the experienced and patient instructors. Being a small group of just three allowed us to fully open up in the workshops.
Lena, your stories and experiences confirmed my passion for Africa. You have such a big heart and keep inspiring me. I recommend this retreat more than 100%! Thank you, Lena, and thanks to the wonderful group 🙏🫶

What a wonderful and enriching experience! 🙏🏼
I attended Lena’s retreat in Ghana, and she definitely succeeded in igniting my already great love for Africa even more—next travel plans are already being forged…
Lena took us to very special places in Ghana and connected us with wonderful people we surely wouldn’t have discovered on our own.
She knows the continent better than some who were born there, passionately shares her experiences, and tells stories of inspiring people who too rarely get heard.
The retreat organization left nothing to be desired from start to finish. She supported me with everything even before the trip began, and on-site, everything was perfectly planned—from the program points and delicious food to the accommodations, travel from A to B, and even caring lovingly for any aches and pains.
The yoga and workshops with Lena were highly inspiring and enriching. Through her authenticity and the judgment-free space she created, we could all open up, getting to know each other better and ourselves on a deeper level. Building trust came easily, and I experienced the honest exchange as deeply appreciative and enriching.
We got to meet Lena’s friends, spend evenings together with drumming and bonfires, explore hidden spots, laugh a lot, and just be.
I wholeheartedly recommend Lena’s retreats to anyone eager to explore real West Africa away from the tourist mainstream and open up to genuine encounters!
Thank you so much for everything, dear Lena—see you soon, I’m sure ❤️
